In 1972, my parents Maria and Savvas Kyriacou, opened Scotland’s very first Greek restaurant: the Greek Golden Kebab. As well as serving more regular fare, exotic new dishes started to appear on the menu: the first-ever pitta kebabs (a popular takeaway item), then later stifado, and our signature melt-in-the-mouth kleftiko, a popular choice with regulars ever since.
We found fame in 1987 when we featured in the hit BBC series “Tutti Frutti” as Eddie Clockerty’s favourite restaurant and meeting place. Look out for us if you watch the DVD.
In the 40 years since the Original Greek Golden Kebab first opened its doors, we’ve been honoured to build a very loyal clientele who come to sample our traditional Greek cuisine in cosy and memorable surroundings.
